November 2nd History
On November 2, 1852, Franklin Pierce was elected 14th President of the United States. There are some other major things that took place on the same day. Some of such things are mentioned below.
1327: – King Alfonso IV of Aragon was crowned.
1648: – 12,000 Jews were massacred in Narol Podlia by Chmielnicki Hordes.
1813: – Treaty of Fulda was signed in Germany after the Battle of Leipzig.
1852: – Franklin Pierce was elected was the 14th President of the US.
1917: – The Balfour Declaration, a declaration of intent was submitted to establish a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine.
1936: – First ever high –definition TV broadcast service by BBC began in London.
1947: – Howard Hughes flew Spruce Goose, the world’s largest aircraft. It was a huge wooden airplane which took 5 years to build and the cost was 25 million.
1962: – President John F. Kennedy made an announcement that Soviet missile bases I Cuba were being dismantled.
1966: – The Cuban Adjustment Act came into force and allowed 123,000 Cubans to apply for permanent residence in the US.
1984: – Velma Barfield, was the first women to be executed in the US since 1962.
1994: – A Benzene explosion occurred in Dronka, Egypt killing more than 400 people.
1995: – General Magnus Malan the former defense minister of South Africa was arrested and charged with apartheid-related murders.
2000: – The International Space Station became permanently staffed.
2004: – George W. Bush won a second term as the US President.
2012: – Canada and Australia launched women-only literary prizes.
