Cloning Process
Cloning can be defined as a process of creating an exact copy of a mammal by using Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. Requirements of cloning process are: – Egg cell donor, Surrogate Mother, Petri dishes, Breeding Oven, Microscope, Sharp Pipette, Blunt Pipette and Chemical to stimulate cell division. The entire process will take place in following steps: –
- In this step, isolation of donor cells will be done. The Somatic cell and egg cell will be placed in Petri dishes.
- Move the Petri dish with egg cell under the microscope. Under the microscope lens, hold the egg cell with the blunt pipette. It is used for suction so that the cell can be held in place.
- Now, the sharp pipette will suck out the nucleus of egg cell. The process of removing the nucleus from the egg cell is called enucleating.
- The enucleated egg cell from the Petri dish will be transferred to the Nuclear Transfer Dish. And transfer the nucleus from Somatic cell to the enucleated egg cell by using both the pipettes.
- Now, the egg cell needs to be simulated to begin cell division. And for this, a drop of stimulating chemical will be added.
- The cell will be divided in a morula of 16 cells in the Petri dish.
- This embryo will be placed in surrogate mother’s womb.
- Once the surrogate mother will deliver, you will have the clone.
