Ionian Sea is a part of the Mediterranean Sea. It is connected with the Tyrrhenian Sea by the Strait of Messina and with the Adriatic Sea by the Strait of Otranto. It is considered to be one of the world’s most seismically active locations. In this region, earthquakes occur very frequently.
The name Ionian is believed to have derived from Ionians who sailed from the east. The average temperature of this region is 20 degrees Celsius in May and 22 degrees Celsius in October.
