Recycling Facts
Recycling can be defined as a process of creating new items from old and new materials. It helps to conserve energy and it results in less emitting of greenhouse gases. It is a part of waste disposal hierarchy. In our country, 2.5 million plastic bottles are being thrown every hour and a single one takes around 500 years to decompose. Recycling a single bottle can save enough energy to light a 60W bulb for six long hours. If aluminium gets recycled then it saves around 95% of the energy cost of producing aluminium from raw materials.
Quick Facts: –
- More than 60% of the trash that ends up in dustbin can be recycled.
- Approximately 25 trees are cutting down to make one ton of newspaper.
- Recycling one ton of paper can save the energy equal to 165 gallons of gasoline.
- There is no limit to the amount of times aluminium can be recycled.
- Approximately 21.5 million tons of food waste is generated. If that is composted then it would reduce a large amount of greenhouse gases.
- Aluminium used to more valuable than gold.
- More than 80 billion aluminium cans are used each and every year around the world.
- Motor oil never wears out. It just gets dirty and can be recycled, refined and used again.
- Plastic bags and garbage thrown into the ocean have devastating effects on sea creatures.
- One drip one second from a leaky faucet wastes around 540 gallons of water.
- Aluminium cans take only about 6 weeks to be recycled and ready to use again.
- Glass is 100% recyclable and be used again and again.
