                                                 Periodic Table Facts

The Periodic Table can be defined as a way of listing the elements. There are total 118 confirmed elements in this table. 90 of them are found in nature and rest of them are completely man-made. Technetium was the first ever man-made element. The rows are called periods and columns are called groups. Hydrogen is the lightest element as it has atomic weight 1. It can be found in the top left corner. Uranium is the heaviest element with the atomic weight of 238. Most of the elements in the periodic table are metal. Francium is the rarest element on the earth.

Fast Facts: –

  • The Periodic table was proposed by Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869 for the first time. He was a professor at the University of St. Petersburg.
  • Mendeleev’s table had some blank spaces but he predicted the weights and chemical behavior of missing elements correctly.
  • There are total 18 groups. Group 1 has all the alkali metals.
  • Helium was first discovered while observing the Sun.
  • Mercury and Bromine are only two elements that remain in the liquid state at room temperature.
  • Argon is very non-reactive and does not combine with other elements.
  • Copernicium is one of the weirdest elements. It is a metal that forms as a gas at room temperature.
  • The first ever periodic table published by Mendeleev contained 63 known elements.
  • Different forms of pure elements are known as allotropes.
  • The country Argentina is named after the element silver. It has the symbol ‘Ag’ that came from the Latin name of silver, Argentum.
