White Hole

A white hole can be described as a theoretical time reversal of a black hole. It is a hypothetical celestial body that emits energy. While a black hole sucks in everything that crosses its event horizon, a white hole pours everything out that was lost in the black hole. In white holes, you cannot enter from outside.

Like black holes, they also have properties which are charge, mass, momentum etc. The law of general relativity implies that if black holes exist in the universe then while holes should also exist. The Big Bang has been described as a white hole.

Quick Facts: –

  • White holes are described as mathematical oddities due to their elusive nature.
  • Similar to black holes, they would also be formed by a gravitational singularity. It is a point in space-time where the gravitational field becomes infinite.
  • It has been speculated that there is a white hole at the other end of a black hole.
  • The concept of white holes’ existence was introduced in 1964 by Dmitriyevich Novikov.
  • Even if a white hole occurs somehow, it would be incredibly unstable. It would probably last for a few seconds.
  • White holes and black holes together can form wormhole when connected. Theoretically, creating a time machine is possible.
  • In 2006, there was a gamma-ray burst called 060614 that lasted for 102 seconds. Some scientists believe that it was a white hole.
  • The force and the length of this gamma-ray burst resonate with the idea of a white hole’s existence.
