Passion Fruit Milkshake from East Africa
African foods vary from place to place, but most dishes rely on starches, such as potatoes, yams or plantains. Spices add flavor, while fruits, such as passion fruit, bananas and pineapple, add sweetness.
The passion fruit is a round or oval fruit that could be yellow or dark purple once it’s ripe. It has a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds. This fruit is widely grown in many countries, including East Africa.
Here’s a simple recipe for a passion fruit milkshake:
- 1 cup milk
- 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream
- 2 passion fruit
If you don’t have passion fruit, try other tropical fruits, such as mangoes. Scoop the flesh from the passion fruits into the milk. Stir the mixture with a fork to release the juice into the milk. Pour this mixture through a sieve to remove the seeds. Blend the juice and milk mixture in a blender with the chocolate ice cream.
