Veryovkina Cave is the deepest cave on the entire planet. It is located approximately 2,212 meters above sea level. This natural wonder is located in the Arabika Massif of the Gagra Range of the Western Caucasus, in the Gagra district, in Abkhazia.
The cave was discovered by a group of cavers that belonged from Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The leader of this expedition group was V. Vaskevitch. At that time it was given the name S-115 while being marked on the map but later it was changed to P1-7. The cave was named after a caver and cave diver Alexander Veryovkin in 1986.

- The expedition of the “Perovo” speleoclub from Moscow discovered the same cave once again in 1982.
- The main entrance of the Veryovkina Cave measures 3 meters in width and 4 metres in length.
- This entrance is located on the pass between the Krepost and Zont mountains and the entrance shaft measured 32 meters.
- No work at all took place in the cave from 1986 to 2000.
- The research was started once again in 2000 by the speleoclub “Perovo” and its team “Perovo-speleo” and it continued till 2015.
- Alexander Veryovkin died in 1983 while exploring a siphon in the cave Su-Akan, which is located in the Sary-Tala massif.
- This cave got deeper with each and every expedition that took place by different groups.
- The most recent expedition got completed in March 2018 that added more than a kilometer in the cave’s depth.
- It was done by the “Perovo-speleo” team which also completed an expedition in August 2017 successfully.
